Journalism

When I’m not busy thinking about novels, writing novels, editing novels and doing all the stuff one must do to sell novels, I enjoy a little light journalism. Or, perhaps, ‘journalism-lite’ more correctly, because never having been to journalism school (something still on the to-do list for when I run out of ways to say ‘and then he kissed her dot dot dot’) I don’t have quite the full complement of tools of the trade. Thus I never knew you should never say a bouquet of flowers (just the bouquet will suffice) or that prefixing divas with ‘la’ and suffixing questions of dimension with ‘the size of Belgium’ were mandatory. Sadly, not ever having been a cub reporter, neither did I get to sit on the knee of a whiskery but powerful old editor while still young enough for that to have been of benefit to my career rather than cause for psychiatric investigation. Still, that being so, I do still have a small but robust portfolio of feature writing credits, mostly with the broadsheet of Cymru, the Western Mail.

Men Behaving Sadly - Feb 07
Can't get her out of your head? - Jan 07
Obviously, if you’ve found yourself here in an editorial capacity and like what you see, it’s worth my pointing out that I’m always available for commissions and have the benefit of being accurate, efficient and brilliant at short notice, because, as fellow novelists know, there is no sound so sweet as that of the siren call of something that earns money and lets you off for the day.
